Perfect project for Craft Fairs

If you’re looking for a quick and easy crochet project that’s not only fun to make but also perfect for selling at fall markets or craft fairs, you’re in the right place. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to crochet a trendy hair scrunchie in just 5 minutes. Yes, you read that right – 5 minutes!

Materials You’ll Need

Before we jump into the speedy crochet action, gather these materials:

  • Yarn: Find some scrap yarn or leftover yarn to complete your scruchie. Go for soft and stretchy yarn like Bernat Velvet Yarn to create comfortable scrunchies. I like to use a variegated yarn in worsted weight to show off the colors. I used Red Heart Icelandic super saver yarn.
  • Crochet Hook: A hook appropriate for the yarn. If you’re using the Bernat Velvet Yarn then a 6.5 mm hook is perfect. If you’re using a worsted weight then a 5.5 mm hook and will help you work quickly.
  • Elastic Hair Band: Opt for plain hair elastics that match your yarn’s color.
  • Scissors: Keep a trusty pair of scissors handy for trimming.
  • Yarn Needle: You’ll use this to weave in ends, but you won’t need it for long!

Stitches Used

  • Slip Stitch
  • Single Crochet
  • Double Crochet

Let’s Crochet a Hair Scrunchie!

Step 1: Slip Knot and Single Crochet

Begin by making a slip knot with your yarn. If you need a refresher, check out this slip knot tutorial. Then, attach the yarn to your elastic hair band.

Single crochet around the hair band.

Continually push the stitches close together to ensure you have densely packed single crochets on your hair band.

Once you can’t fit any more single crochets on your hair band, slip stitch to the first single crochet you made.

Step 2: Double Crochet

Begin in the same stitch you slip stitched in and crochet two double crochets into the stitch.

Continue around crocheting two double crochets into each stitch.

Slip stitch to the first double crochet you made in this round.

Step 3: Finish and Secure

Fasten off your work! Leave a little extra tail to weave in. Place in hair and enjoy!
